Ruby Anniversary Koru Ring
This bespoke ring was commissioned to mark what would have been a couple's 40th wedding anniversary.
When we first met, the client had only one certainty. She wanted a ruby ring. Beyond that, she was unsure where to begin. Our conversations focused less on jewellery and more on the life she had shared with her husband, the people they were, and the things they loved.
From those conversations emerged the idea of two distinct personalities expressed within a single design.
The flowing yellow gold represents her husband. Smooth, strong and quietly supportive, its gentle curves weave through the piece before forming a koru, a symbol of growth, connection and continuity.
In contrast, the textured white gold captures the energy of the coast she loved to describe. Not the calm of a summer beach, but the wild beauty of the shoreline itself. Dynamic, expressive and full of movement, it brings a sense of power and emotion to the design.
Rubies, chosen to honour forty years of marriage, trace a path through the centre of the ring, connecting the two forms. During the design process an unexpected detail emerged - the flowing lines naturally formed the letter "S", the couple's surname initial. It was never planned, but felt entirely right once discovered.
The result is a deeply personal piece that celebrates love, memory and a life shared together.
